Who we are
We are a resilient & supportive community
Media Hub Riga is a non-governmental, private organisation established in 2018, providing tailored support to independent media workers and their families in the neighbouring region.
Our team of legal, social, health and management professionals work hand in hand to overcome challenges and find solutions to difficult issues, by fostering cross-institutional collaboration.
We aim to promote and support sustainable entrepreneurship and media development, as well as providing emergency support when necessary.
Our Achievements
We helped many media workers and organisations
Since 2018 we have provided support to over 500 media workers and their family members, as well as over 30 media and human rights organisations. The majority have had to flee their own country due to repressions or war, trying to rebuild in a safe environment. Some are doing journalistic work without the support and protection of a newsroom, thus our advocacy work to strengthen independent media, health of community and democracy is at the core of what we do.
This work would not be possible without the commitment of our multi-talented team, the support of likeminded media development organisations and a network of experienced and courageous professionals.
In 2022 Sabine Sile, the founder of Media Hub Riga and Sustainability Foundation, received the excellence award from the Latvian Association of Journalists, in the honor of a courageous and energetic Latvian journalist, professor, manager Inta Brikše.
In 2023, Media Hub Riga was amongst the 10 worldwide projects selected by the Dutch Ministry Foreign Affairs for the Human Rights Tulip Award.
